Unfiled Returns
If you have tax returns that have not been filed, we have personnel on staff that can prepare these returns for you. If you do not have your income documents, 1099s, W-2s, etc., we can obtain these documents from the IRS. If you have a home with a mortgage, we can also obtain the 1098 showing the interest you paid on your loan. You will however, have to call your local taxing authority to obtain the amount of real estate tax you paid. If you have a business, you will need to have the actual expense receipts or copies of cancelled checks. Mileage, meals, entertainment and lodging will also require expense receipts or a reconstruction of these expenses.
If you did not file your returns and the IRS filed these returns for you (called Substitute for Returns, SFRs), these returns were filed allowing you zero deductions and only one dependent. If you were married and had dependents, business expenses, health care expenses, mortgage and real estate tax, we can prepare original returns for you based on these additional deductions. In most cases, the returns we prepare will substantially reduce the tax shown on the returns the IRS prepared for you.
If the IRS filed SFRs for you, the returns we prepare have to be filed in a very specific manner otherwise IRS will reject the filing of these returns as a claim being filed after the statue of limitations has expired.
If your claim is denied, you will still owe the larger tax shown on the SFRs filed by the IRS. We are one of only a very few tax firms that understand and are successful in filing this type of return for our clients.
SFRs require a very specific handling and filing criteria, Contact Us to ensure the IRS processes your returns correctly.
